With 20 years in music and a decade as a professional, Matthew Smeda transforms musical concepts into evocative soundscapes that bridge cultures, genres, and visual storytelling. A graduate of Berklee College of Music (Cum Laude, BA in Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games), Matt blends technical prowess with a uniquely cinematic sensibility honed through performances across the UAE, Middle East, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
As a composer for visual media, Matt's distinctive approach marries diverse cultural influences with narrative-driven composition. His rescoring of the animated short "Spring" and contributions to an award-winning student animation in 2018 showcase his ability to enhance visual storytelling through sound—creating not just accompaniment, but emotional architecture for each project.
In the classroom, Matt is revolutionizing music education through what he calls "purposeful practice." Rejecting the old paradigms of mindless repetition and isolated perfectionism, his students learn to become versatile, confident musicians who can join any ensemble, master challenging pieces in weeks rather than months, and improvise with ease. This innovative approach has launched students to prestigious institutions like Berklee College of Music and helped others achieve top marks in GCSE and A-Level music examinations.
